About

Software engineer near Stuttgart. I build and run an internal developer platform, and I write down what I learn.

I’m Matthias. I work on internal developer platforms: the clusters, pipelines and golden paths that other engineers build on. Most of my day is Kubernetes and Go, plus the decisions, big and small, that keep a system boring in the best sense.

This site exists for two reasons. First, so that there is one place on the internet that says I exist. Second, as a notebook. When I learn something the hard way, I write it down here so that the next person (often me) learns it the easy way.

I prefer short answers first and details after. Every post starts with the conclusion. If the first line is all you need, you can stop there.

Timeline

  1. 2023 –
    Software Engineer → Senior

The title says software engineer. The job is SRE and platform engineering: I build an internal developer platform, keep it running, and host a few backend services on it myself, so I feel every sharp edge first.

  2. 2023
    Working student, data engineering

The E in ETL, plus the GCP infrastructure underneath. Mostly the E.

  3. 2021 – 2023
M.Sc. Computer Science, University of Stuttgart

Thesis: implementing variational quantum algorithms as compositions of reusable, microservice-based plugins.

  4. 2020
    Working student, software engineering

Some Angular, mostly Go microservices on GCP. The backend won.

  5. 2018 – 2021
    Tutor, University of Stuttgart

Taught digital logic and computer organisation to first-years. Explaining flip-flops at 8 am taught me more than it taught them.

  6. 2017 – 2021
B.Sc. Computer Science, University of Stuttgart

Thesis: a recommendation system for services. Netflix for microservices, minus the budget.

Reading
Mostly non-fiction about systems and people. Some science fiction to recover.
Hiking
Day tours in the Bavarian and Austrian Alps. Early start, early summit, early beer.
Via ferrata
I am afraid of heights. I go anyway, one clip at a time.
